On the edge of Rossland, BC, Red Mountain is pure Kootenay skiing — big, bold, and authentic. With over 3,800 acres across three peaks, it’s one of North America’s largest ski areas, yet still keeps a laid-back, uncrowded feel. Deep snow, steep tree runs, wide-open bowls, and playful groomers make it a true playground for every style of rider. The mountain’s local vibe, indie spirit, and vibrant ski town set it apart, while Canada’s first ski-in hostel and plenty of cozy lodging keep things welcoming and down-to-earth. The closest airport is West Kootenay Regional Airport (YCG) in Castlegar, about 30 km away. However, most visitors fly into Spokane International Airport (GEG) in Washington State, roughly 200 km (2.5 hours) from Rossland, due to more frequent and reliable flight options.
